The l o a d s h a r i n g f e a t u r e of NXT s e r i e s p o w e r supplies a l l o w s accurate
c u r r e n t s h a r i n g between t w o or more p o w e r modules. This f e a t u r e i s
suitable f o r N + l r e d u n d a n t systems or h i g h c u r r e n t a p p l i c a t i o n s w h e r e
t w o o r more p o w e r supplies need to be p a r a l l e l e d . C u r r e n t s h a r i n g i s
achieved t h r o u g h a single w i r e connection (share bus1 common t o a l l of
the p a r a l l e l e d modules. The l o a d share e v a l u a t i o n b o a r d i s d e s i g n e d to
demonstrate an o p t i m u m l a y o u t to assist the user w i l h p a r a l l e l i n g t w o
NXT series p o w e r supplies i n computer, telecom, m e d i c a l and o t h e r
h i g h r e l i a b i l i t y d i s t r i b u t e d povrer systems. The l o a d share e v a l u a t i o n
b o a r d comes p r e - p o p u l a t e d w i t h a l l e s s e n t i a l components t o p e r f o r m
t h i s evaluation.

Dependant on configuration, there may be high voltages presenl on this evaluation board. Some components under maximum povrer may be hot
prevent them from exceeding t h e i r maximum operating temperature.

ENABLE
This feature may be used to i n t r o d u c e a module i n t o a l o a d share system. I n a t y p i c a l application. the switch i s set to the DISABLE p o s i t i o n , a module i s
connected to the system, powered on and the switch moved to the ENABLE position. This module w i l l now share l o a d current equally w i t h the other modules i n
the system. However, the module must be configured as the slave ( l o w e r VOUT than the master) f o r disable to occur.
ORlNG DIODES
O r i n g diodes must be used i n a l l a p p l i c a t i o n s w i t h t h e 2.5 through 15 Volt models (1001 - 1005) to a v o i d one module from s i n k i n g c u r r e n t f r o m the other.
O r i n g diodes a r e o p t i o n a l w i t h 24 through 48 Volts models (1006 - 1008) i n power b o o s t i n g applications. O r i n g diodes must be used to i s o l a t e the modules i n
the event of a f a i l u r e i n redundant applications.
APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
Current c a r r y i n g conductors must be minimum length, maximum gauge and symmetrical.
Remote sense conductors should be a t w i s t e d p a i r .
Minimum c u r r e n t share l o a d i s 10% of each modules output c u r r e n t r a t i n g .
O r i n g diodes w i t h a very l o w f o r w a r d voltage d r o p must be used to reduce power d i s s i p a t i o n .
O r i n g diode power d i s s i p a t i o n must be subtracted from the power r a t i n g of the power supply.
Maximum output voltage d e v i a t i o n between modules i s 5% when using 2.5 through 5 Volt models.
Maximum output voltage d e v i a t i o n between modules i s 400 mV when using 12 through 48 Volt models.
- Up l o f o u r modules may be paralleled w i t h the use of an a d d i t i o n a l evaluation board.
Load regulation, output noise and t r a n s i e n t response may be h i g h e r than s p e c i f i e d i n l o a d s h a r i n g applications.
NXT series power supplies have a remote i n h i b i t o p t i o n that may be used as l o a d share enable Idisable.
- Load share evaluation boards r e q u i r e the same forced a i r r a t i n g as the power supply model b e i n g used.
- I n d i v i d u a l power supplies are shipped p r e - c o n f i g u r e d f o r l o c a l sense. These sense jumpers must be removed p r i o r to connection t o t h e
evaluation board.
